MIT Emerging Talent

The MIT Emerging Talent at MIT is an institute-wide effort to develop global education programs that target the needs of underserved communities, including refugees, displaced persons, migrants and economically disadvantaged populations. MIT Emerging Talent’s cornerstone program is its Certificate in Computer and Data Science (CDS), a nine-months program in which participants hone the skills needed for success in the 21st-century economy, technical and human (soft) skills.

Certificate in Computer and Data Science (CDS)

The MIT Emerging Talent Certificate in CDS is a high-touch, agile continuous education (ACE) program, consisting of asynchronous and synchronous online courses, synchronous bootcamps, and experiential learning (at-work apprenticeships and internships), in which learners earn certificates and experience in computer programming and data analysis, cross-cultural collaboration, remote work readiness, innovation thinking and entrepreneurship.

    • Experiential learning through paid apprenticeships, internships or experiential learning project,

    • Engagement in wider networks through mentorship, participation in human skill workshops, and connected peer communities.

  • The 2022 CDS class included 135 learners selected from a pool of more than 1000 applicants who responded to a competitive global application.

    The cohort brought their skills and talents from 31 different countries, with regional presence in the Middle East and North Africa, East Africa, South America, Asia, Europe and North America.
